High accuracy, rapid, survey-grade terrain data - even in vegetation and complex sites.

Our Aerial Platform

We operate a survey-grade UAV LiDAR platform built for professional geospatial data capture. Our aerial system combines a high-performance UAV with an advanced LiDAR sensor and RTK/PPK positioning, enabling us to capture high-density, high-accuracy point cloud data across large and complex environments.

This platform allows for rapid coverage of sites such as infrastructure corridors, forestry, quarries and large development areas, while maintaining the level of accuracy required for engineering and planning applications. The system is capable of capturing hundreds of thousands of laser measurements per second, delivering reliable terrain data even in vegetated or challenging conditions.

Our platform is based on professional UAV and LiDAR technology from DJI, using the industry-leading Matrice 400 and Zenmuse L3 LiDAR hardware, designed specifically for survey and mapping applications.

This is not a hobby drone. This is a professional airborne survey system.

Where Aerial LiDAR Delivers the Most Value

Aerial LiDAR is a highly versatile surveying technology, providing fast, accurate and reliable spatial data across a wide range of industries and environments. It is particularly effective for large-scale, complex or vegetated sites where traditional survey methods are time-consuming, difficult or impractical.

At Matt Hull Consulting, our Aerial LiDAR surveys are commonly used for:

Construction & Engineering

  • Pre-construction topographical surveys
  • Earthworks and cut & fill volumes
  • Site progress monitoring

Infrastructure & Corridors

  • Road, rail and utility mapping
  • Embankment and slope analysis

Forestry & Environmental

  • Woodland terrain modelling
  • Flood and drainage studies

Quarries & Volumetric

  • Stockpile volumes
  • Change and progress monitoring

Land & Site Assessment

  • Feasibility and master planning
  • Contour and slope mapping

Why Choose Aerial LiDAR?

Aerial LiDAR is the preferred surveying method for projects that require high-accuracy terrain data over large or complex areas. Unlike traditional surveying and standard drone imagery, LiDAR uses laser pulses to directly measure the physical environment, producing highly detailed and reliable 3D datasets.

Key benefits include:

  • True ground models through vegetation
LiDAR can penetrate tree cover and dense vegetation, allowing accurate terrain modelling where photogrammetry often fails.
  • High point density and accuracy
Millions of precise measurements create detailed point clouds suitable for engineering and design applications.
  • Rapid coverage of large sites
Large areas can be surveyed quickly, significantly reducing time on site.
  • Reduced access requirements
Ideal for hazardous, remote or difficult-to-access locations, improving safety and minimising disruption.
  • Consistent, repeatable data
Perfect for progress monitoring, change detection and volumetric analysis.
  • Engineering-ready outputs
Delivers DTMs, contours, volumes and CAD/BIM surfaces that can be used immediately in professional workflows.

In short: Aerial LiDAR provides survey-grade terrain data faster, safer and more efficiently than traditional survey methods or standard drone mapping.

What is Aerial LiDAR?

Aerial LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is an advanced surveying technology that uses laser pulses from an aerial platform to accurately measure the physical environment and create highly detailed 3D models of the ground and surrounding features.

Unlike standard aerial photography or drone mapping, LiDAR can capture true ground data even through vegetation, making it ideal for terrain modelling, infrastructure mapping and environmental surveys. It is particularly well suited to projects that require high-accuracy spatial data over large, complex or hard-to-access areas.
